• Advice and Guidance Level 3 Certificate

  The aim of this qualification is to recognize the skills and competences of candidates in the workplace.

  The qualification is primarily aimed at practitioners who work directly with clients, disseminating information, advice and some level of guidance. Candidates will be working with information that is often interpreted by others, usually working within some clear guidelines.

  It is suitable for candidates: 

  • Whose work includes clear guidelines in the practice of Advice and Guidance
  • Who are working in designated advice and/or guidance organisations
  • Whose role is to provide information that is often interpreted by others

• Advice and Guidance Level 4 Diploma

  The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills and competences of candidates in the workplace.

  The qualification is primarily aimed at experienced practitioners who work directly with clients, disseminating information, advice, guidance and formal advocacy. Candidates might also have some managerial or training responsibilities. They could also be creators of information, advice and guidance, either disseminating information themselves as practitioners or through their organisation in the form of publications. Candidates at this level are expected to have a more dynamic relationship with other organisations.

  It is suitable for candidates:

  • Who have managerial or training responsibilities
  • Who are creators of information, advice and guidance within the service/practice
  • Who are dynamic in their dealings with organisations.

• Learning, Development and Support Services Level 5 Diploma (available April 2011)

  This qualification reflects the activities and responsibilities of candidates who work with children, young people and those who care for them. The qualification will identify common areas of work such as health and safety, protection, networks and individual pathways for:

  • Education Welfare
  • Connexions
  • Learning Mentors

  The qualification provides a variety of optional units that allow for the recognition of specialist functions and also the flexibility to move across occupational areas

• Supporting Clients to Overcome Barriers to Learning and Work Level 3 Award (NEW)

  The Level 3 Award for Supporting clients to overcome barriers to learning and work has been specifically designed for those working in the new Adult Advancement and Career Service, external agency and voluntary service signposting roles, and roles where staff who work in other organisations provide career advice, information, employability support and signposting as part of their own broader work role.

• Careers Information and Advice Level 4 Diploma (NEW)

  The Level 4 Diploma in Career Information and Advice has been specifically designed for those working in the new Adult Advancement and Career Service, external agency and voluntary service signposting roles, and roles where staff who work in other organisations providing career advice, information, employability support and signposting as part of their own broader work role.

   

  This qualification has a core of mandatory units which will be applicable to all para-professional staff.

   

  Mandatory units:

  • Preparing to work in the Career Information, Advice and Guidance Sector
  • Reflecting on practice and continuous professional development
  • Communicate with clients to determine their need for career information, advice and guidance
  • Awareness of career choice theories and concepts for supporting clients
  • Meeting the career-related information needs of clients

  There is also scope to take a wide range of optional units which will reflect the diversity of roles undertaken by staff

• Career Guidance and Development Level 6 Diploma (available April 2011)

  This qualification supports Professional level staff to provide in-depth career guidance to clients with more complex and longer term needs or who are vocationally undecided. The Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development has a large core of mandatory units with scope to take some optional units to reflect different areas of activity within the role. This role involves the application of career guidance theories and models to practice in order to support those clients to make realistic and informed decisions and plans regarding new learning or training opportunities and career planning.

   

  Mandatory units:

  • Preparing to work in the Career Information, Advice and Guidance Sector
  • Reflecting on practice and continuous professional development
  • Agree the purpose of client-centred career guidance interviews and maintain communication with clients
  • Career Guidance Theory
  • Exploration and agreement of how to meet the career guidance and development needs of the client
  • Using Career and Labour Market Information with clients
  • Work with other agencies for the benefit of clients and own organisation

Training Centre Accredited Course Information

• Information, Advice and Guidance: Engagement and Identification of Client needs

  This is a level three course, worth 2 credits, accredited by the National Open College Network (NOCN).

  The aim of the qualification is to equip voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations with the knowledge, skills and confidence, to establish professional relationships with clients and to make effective referrals to partner agencies.

• An introduction to the common core of Skills and Knowledge when working with children and young people

  This is a level two course, worth 7 credits, accredited by National Open College Network (NOCN).

  The aim of the qualification is to enable learners to understand why the common core has been introduced, what the common core is and who it applies to, the use of the common core and where they can go to find out more about the common core.

• Safeguarding Disabled and Non-Disabled Children

  This is a level three course, worth 3 credits, accredited by National Open College Network (NOCN).

  The aim of this qualification is for learners to gain awareness in the field of safeguarding disabled and non-disabled children. It includes detecting and reporting symptoms; identifying risks for disabled and vulnerable children; minimising risk for disabled children; acting appropriately where abuse is suspected; acting appropriately in cases of disclosure.
