Support in Schools and Colleges

In school/college

Each school or college in Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, St. Helens, Sefton and Wirral has a Connexions Personal Adviser linked to them. Our Personal Advisers are professionally qualified, friendly and with a real interest in helping young people make the most of the available opportunities.

The help and support Personal Advisers offer can be provided via group work or through one to one interviews or more intensive support on issues like bullying or health and relationships.

In Year 9

  • Guidance and one to one support including help with option choice including the new specialist diplomas
  • Attendance at parents’ evenings in school
  • Provide an introductory booklet ‘Connexions and You’ about our work (also available to download from the Media room section of this website)

In Year 10

  • Guidance and one to one support Talks on career options and pathways Guidance interview to explore career choice Attendance at parents’ evenings in school Support for young people preparing for work experience

In Year 11 

  • Guidance and one to one support
  • Guidance interviews
  • Information on Post 16 options via talks and booklets 
  • Information on financial support e.g. Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA); benefits etc
  • Access to computer based assessment and guidance programmes
  • Attendance at parents’ evenings in schools
  • Support with applications to post 16 study, work or training
  • Attendance at career conventions at schools 
  • Support with post 16 transition

In Sixth Form or College

Information, Advice and Guidance about:

  • Further education
  • Higher Education
  • Employment and Training Opportunities 
  • Choices at 18 option brochure 
  • Financial help available including support for study
  • An annual Higher Education Conference at the University of Liverpool for all students interested in applying for HE.

      (The 2008 event is on 19/20 June.)
