New York Marathon Charity CD
I work for Knowsley Connexions as a Personal Adviser and I am running the New York Marathon in November to raise money for Weston Spirit. This is a national youth charity co founded by Simon Weston OBE. They work with socially excluded and vulnerable young people aged 13-25 across the UK. My aim was to raise £2200.
In order to do this I came up with the idea of producing a charity CD of popular songs to sell to raise this money. Now I knew I couldn't’t do this on my own so I looked to some of the fantastically talented young people I work with in Kirkby and Huyton.
I didn’t need to look far, as I already knew of one young lady (Amanda Pendleton) who had recorded a song so asked her if she would like it on the disc, she agreed. It was the first time she had been in a recording studio and was nervous at first but then she got the hang of it and really enjoyed herself. When her Dad heard the song for the first time he didn’t believe it was her.
Another group of lads Jay Evans, Kion Lonergan and Mark Doran also sang and played instruments on one of the tracks, and I managed to find out how they felt after their recording, Jay “ He felt proud to be doing it and felt like he had achieved something and that he had his name on the disc so that was good for his CV, Kion had great fun and was glad that its getting sold for charity, and he hopes everyone likes it. It also has inspired him to continue with his music.
Another couple of young lads from Newstead Centre in Kirkby have produced the design for the Cd cover, Joe Foster and John Wallace. Everyone from Asda and Tesco to Connexions, Children’s Services, the CLC Knowsley have contributed to paying for the recording time which was done at a local recording studio Keylink in Kirkby.
My colleagues at Connexions and my sister and best friend have also sang on the CD so its been a fantastic adventure so far and the CD is actually very good.
All I have to do now is run 26.2 miles in New York, forgot about that!!!!!!
But what will inspire me to keep running is all the hard work everyone has put into the journey I have had so far in getting there.
