Kirstie tells VIPs to get young people involved!

Speaking as a special guest at Merseyside Community Youth Games, Kirstie Nicholls, 16 of Halton, appealed to figureheads from key local partners to get young people on board in planning events and activities across the region.

Kirstie had worked with other young people since November in planning and designing this exciting event, which saw some 700 youngsters from different boroughs in Merseyside, come together and engage in sporting activities.

Members of the Merseyside Sports Partnership brought young people together to give them the opportunity to participate in sport and cultural activities, whilst enjoying a sense of competition and community involvement. The afternoon saw Kirstie battle it out in the Girl’s Football Tournament for a place in the final, giving their best performance yet with other members of her group from Halton Youth Service.

She told Connexions:

“It’s been really good seeing the event finally come together after all those months of planning. Young people should be invited to help design events more, because we all know how adults can get things wrong!”
