Working Hours
Working hours are regulated by the government. These are called the “Working Time Regulations” and they cover people of all ages, they are divided into 5 groups.
Under 13
Age 13 and 14
Age 15 and age 16 who are still at School
Age 16 after compulsory school leaving age and up to 18
Age 18 plus
For those under sixteen who are still at school, the Local Authority has its own rules (called “bye-laws”) on what sort of work they are allowed to do.
For those 16 to 18 in full time work the maximum hours allowed are 40 per week including any overtime.
