Stay Safe at Work
Each year in the UK 250, 000 people under 25 start their first job:
- 4,000 young people aged 16-25 are injured at work each year.
- 15,000 of them will be unable to work for more than 3 days.
- on average 12 will be killed.
Despite the efforts made by the majority of employers to ensure safety at work and stricter safety rules for young workers, young people's lack of workplace experience and safety training leaves them more vulnerable than older, more experienced workers.
The TUC recommends that young people, their parents and their employers all ensure that they are aware of the legal protections for young workers.
